Stamp set to mark 50 years of Singapore's National Day Parade
SingPost to issue stamp set to mark 50 years of Singapore's National Day Parade
A set of stamps to commemorate 50 years of Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP) will be launched on Monday (Aug 8), SingPost said in a press release on Friday.
The set will comprise seven stamps, each featuring NDP highlights over the years.
These highlights include the 1970 NDP featuring Singapore's first flypast of the state flag, the 1976 NDP which was held for the first time at the newly completed National Stadium, the 2007 NDP at the Float@ Marina Bay, the first time a new venue was chosen and, lastly, the 2016 NDP which marks the first of the next 50 years of Singapore's growth and development, as well as the first National Day celebration back at the rebuilt National Stadium.
Each set of stamps comes in six denominations: 1st local, 2nd local, 60 cents, 70 cents, 90 cents and $1.30.
There is also a pre-cancelled first day cover at $5.20 that comes affixed with the complete set of stamps.
"While every stamp creation and dedication is special, these ones are extra special. We are excited to dedicate these classic stamps, and what better occasion to do it than at this year's National Day celebration," said Mr Woo Keng Leong, Chief Executive Officer, Postal Services, SingPost.
The stamp sets will go on sale from Aug 8 at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum. They may also be purchased online at www.stampdelight.com, or from the SingPost pop up store at HDB Hub Atrium on Aug 8 and 9, from 11am to 8pm.

这套彩色纪念硬币由新加坡造币厂铸造，将于11月13日正式发行。
今年推出的这套彩色纪念币由两枚银币组成，分别以两种土生土长的胡姬花品种，即狮子石斛（Dendrobium leonis）与牙刷石斛（Dendrobium secundum）为设计。狮子石斛的花瓣是米黄色带点红，牙刷石斛的花卉则是粉紫色中有橘色花瓣。

金融管理局为纪念我国独立50周年，推出一套六款纪念钞票，周四发售就吸引大批公众赶在银行开门前就去排队。
每套纪念钞包括一款50元面额和五款10元面额的钞票，公众可到本地九家主要银行以等值面额换取纪念钞，换言之每套价值100元。

纠正SG50纪念钞封套错误
首任总统尤索夫伊萨名字出现错误拼写，金融管理局将重新印刷SG50纪念钞封套以纠正错误，而纪念钞也买气不减，今早银行出现长长人龙。
SG50纪念钞前天首日发行，不过纪念钞封套上尤索夫的英文名字“Yusof Ishak”错拼成“Yusok Ishak”，同样的错误也出现在纪念钞的解说小册子中。
金管局前天发表声明说，该局正在印刷贴纸，以粘贴遮盖出错的部分。
不过该局昨天下午宣布，将重新印刷新封套，除了更正错误拼写，也会进行增印，以满足比预期更高的需求。
金管局发言人说，各大银行将继续分发已印好的旧封套给前往兑换纪念钞的公众，从本月25日起，这些旧封套上将粘上更正贴纸。
金管局近期将通知公众新封套预计在何时印刷好。那些已领取旧封套的公众，如果想换取新印刷的封套，过后也可以前去更换。

新加坡金融管理局昨天推出一套纪念我国建国50周年的6款新钞票，国人从明天起可到银行换取。
纪念钞分为一款50元面额和5款10元面额的钞票，正面都有首任总统尤索夫伊萨的肖像。这一套聚合物（polymer）塑胶钞票的设计从3大方面得到启发，分别是我国历史的重大里程碑和成就、多元种族主义和促成我国发展的价值观和愿望。
50元面额钞票上也显示我国已故首任总理李光耀高喊“独立”的画面。钞票上的金色代表我国今年步入金禧年。
所有5款10元面额钞票的正面相同，背面则在“繁华国度，可爱家庭”的大主题下各显示一个小主题，包括：“不分种族、言语或宗教”、“人人都有机会”、“安全与安定”、“稳固的家庭”和“有爱心的社群，积极的公民意识”。
新推出的纪念钞和今年4月教育部长王瑞杰揭幕的纪念钱币，组成了一整套完整的SG50纪念货币。
公众可从明天起在9个主要零售银行以面值换取纪念钞，新加坡人将可优先换取钞票，直到9月30日为止。为了确保大家都有机会换取，每名国人只能最多换取5套纪念钞票，或者从每一种设计换取最多5张。从10月1日开始，非新加坡公民也可换取纪念钞。
提供换钞服务的9家银行包括：星展银行／储蓄银行、华侨银行、大华银行、中国银行、花旗银行、中国工商银行、马来亚银行、渣打银行和汇丰银行。

SG50 banknotes available from tomorrow
A set of six currency notes with designs depicting significant milestones and achievements in Singapore's history was launched yesterday by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The set, issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to mark the country's 50th birthday, comprises one $50 note and five $10 polymer notes.
Like the current series of notes, the SG50 commemorative notes feature a portrait of Singapore's first president, Yusof Ishak, at the front.
But the new bills have security features that are the first of their kind to be used on a note, said MAS. For example, the $50 note has a security stripe featuring the numbers "1965" that change to "2015" when held at a different angle.
The gold $50 note shows an iconic image of the late Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first prime minister, at the steps of City Hall in 1959, with a raised fist and leading the crowd with a rallying cry of "Merdeka!". The event marked the achievement of self-government by Singapore.
The back of the note features Singapore's first National Day Parade on Aug 9, 1966, and the latest new town of Punggol. The note highlights Singapore's history, transformation and future while the note's gold colour depicts the golden jubilee, MAS said.
The five $10 notes have a common front design and varying back designs on values and aspirations, such as multiracialism, meritocracy, peace and stability, strong families and active citizenry.
This Golden Jubilee year is "a time to reflect on our shared history and sacrifices of our pioneers, to reflect on the values that brought us here and pledge to preserve and uphold these values", said PM Lee at the launch, held at the MAS building in Shenton Way.
The notes were designed by four local artists and designers: Chua Mia Tee, Eng Siak Loy, Weng Ziyan and Fabian Lim.
The public can get the commemorative notes at the branches of nine major retail banks from tomorrow by exchanging them at face value. These include DBS Bank/POSB, OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank. Each individual will be limited to a quota of five sets of notes.
Singaporeans will be given priority to exchange the notes from Aug 20 to Sept 30. They will have to present their identity card at the bank as proof of citizenship. The notes will be available to non-Singaporeans from Oct 1.
Said Andrew Khoo, deputy managing director of corporate development at MAS: "There will be enough SG50 notes available for exchange. There is no need to rush."
A total of 20 million pieces of $50 notes and 75 million pieces of $10 notes - 15 million pieces of each design - will be printed, added Dr Khoo.

Singapore Philatelic Museum launches exhibition to celebrate SG50
Singaporeans can now trace the nation's progress over the years through a showcase of stamps. To celebrate SG50, the Singapore Philatelic Museum has launched an exhibition with over 240 items, such as old stamps and postcards.
It opens to the public on Tuesday (Jul 21) and will run until Jul 31, 2016.
One of the stamps on display at the exhibition is the first stamp issued in Aug 9, 1966 to mark the nation's independence. Another highlight is a printing plate of the 1999 stamp that features Singapore's first President Yusof Ishak.
Visitors can also take some stamps home, by buying a folder with a sheet of 50 stamps from the exhibition.
Said Singapore Philatelic Museum’s general manager, Tresnawati Prihadi: “We use our stamps - that tiny piece of paper with images on it - to convey messages about Singapore, so we hope that through this exhibition, our younger generation will be inspired to see how they can contribute and do the best for our nation.”

30多年前从提款机取得一张错体1元钞票，如今钱币收藏商出价1700元收购，主人不愿出让，要等“有缘人”出现。
送货司机符先生（60岁）80年代初住在武吉知马海希德路，在那里的提款机取钱时，拿到一张1元鸟系列的错体钞票。
当时他感到奇怪，提款机怎会吐出错体钞？后来也没有放在心上，就把错体钞收藏在家，直到90年代结婚后交给太太收藏至今。

Stamps to celebrate Year of the Goat
SingPost launches goat-themed stamps to celebrate Year of the Goat
Local postal services company SingPost has released a set of stamps featuring illustrations of goats to usher in the Chinese New Year.
The latest set is the eighth in the series, issued yearly to depict the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar, which falls on Feb 19 this year. Based on the Chinese animal zodiac, this is the Year of the Goat.
A complete set of three stamps will cost $2.30, while a limited-edition collectors' sheet costs $16.80, said SingPost in a statement on Wednesday.

本地1978年推出的“狮子头”一元硬币，如今价值140元；1976年制造的马来西亚一分钱铜币，现价值也可高达近4000元！这些宝贝都可在珍珠大厦的周末怀旧市场搜获。
一向以旅行社著名的珍珠大厦，近三四年来所推出的周末怀旧市场，也让此地成为了收藏发焼友所喜欢聚集寻宝的地方。
每逢周末从早上10时到晚上6时30分，一群本地收藏家都会到这里摆摊，售卖旧物品和收藏品，例如旧钱币纸钞、黑胶唱片、古表、娘惹饰品，甚至是早期的结婚证书和海峡殖民地时期的文物。

配合旅游业在本地过去50年的发展，新邮政（SingPost）将推出一套名为“新加坡旅游50年”的纪念邮票。（新邮政提供）
“新加坡旅游50年（1964—2014）”共包括五张色彩缤纷的邮票，描绘了新加坡的不同面貌，包括标志性建筑、本地美食、旅游景点以及本地生活环境等。
这套邮票有五种面值，分别是“第一级本地邮资”（1st local）、“第二级本地邮资”（2nd Local）、6角、9角和1元3角。一整套邮票的售价是3元47角。
该局也将推出其他邮品如首日封等，公众今天起可到各大邮政局、新加坡集邮馆，或上网www.stampdelight.com购买。

A new stamp issue featuring two popular myths and legends of Singapore will be released on Friday.
Entitled, Singapore's Myths and Legends, the issue illustrates the legend of Redhill, or Bukit Merah, about fierce swordfish that attacked villagers there till a boy's plan to trap them using banana tree trunks worked.
As the story goes, the boy was later killed by a king jealous of his subsequent fame, covering the hill with blood and turning it red.
It will also feature the legend of Sang Nila Utama, a prince from Palembang who, as the story goes, discovered the island of Singapore (known then as Temasek) while out on a hunting trip. According to the legend, the prince spotted what he thought was a lion, and named the island Singapura - Lion City in Sanskrit.

A new stamp issue illustrates the legend of Redhill, or Bukit Merah, about fierce swordfish that attacked villagers there till a boy's plan to trap them using banana tree trunks worked. -- PHOTO: SINGAPORE POST
A new stamp issue featuring two popular myths and legends of Singapore will be released on Friday.
Entitled, Singapore's Myths and Legends, the issue illustrates the legend of Redhill, or Bukit Merah, about fierce swordfish that attacked villagers there till a boy's plan to trap them using banana tree trunks worked.
As the story goes, the boy was later killed by a king jealous of his subsequent fame, covering the hill with blood and turning it red.
It will also feature the legend of Sang Nila Utama, a prince from Palembang who, as the story goes, discovered the island of Singapore (known then as Temasek) while out on a hunting trip. According to the legend, the prince spotted what he thought was a lion, and named the island Singapura - Lion City in Sanskrit.

‘I Am Singaporean’ stamps to mark nation’s birthday
A set of 15 local stamps, featuring familiar images signifying National Service and of Changi Airport’s control tower, among others, will go on sale from Monday (Aug 4) to celebrate Singapore’s 49 years of independence.
The I Am Singaporean set this year celebrates the “unique traits, values and characteristics of Singaporeans and this island we call home”, said Singapore Post in a press release on Sunday. Other images featured in the series include Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, the iconic Esplanade building, as well the Republic’s penchant for acronyms.
This is the second of a three-set commemorative series to mark Singapore’s 50th birthday next year.
The first set of stamps – with the theme Our Journey Together – was released in August last year, showcasing examples of what Singaporeans have shared, overcome and achieved together as a nation.
This year’s set will be available at all post offices, the Singapore Philatelic Museum and online.
Besides the 15 1st Local stamps, other stamp products of this issue include the Miniature Sheet, the Pre-cancelled First Day Cover affixed with the complete set of stamps, the Pre-cancelled First-Day Cover affixed with Miniature Sheet, and the Presentation Pack with a complete set of stamps and a miniature sheet.

本地钞票，收藏家也看上，一张5元胡姬系列特别号码的钞票，以3万4000元成功拍卖，5年翻6倍。据知，这张5元钞票在7月19日拍卖时，反应热烈，拍卖从3万2000元开始，最后卖得3万4000元，让在场不少竞标 者惊讶。
这张5元胡姬系列钞票是在1967年发行，属于当时A5系列，具有的特别号码是555555，并有当时的财政部长林金山的签名。
受访收藏家指出，一般的拍卖佣金大约18%，以3万4000元计算，收藏家要付出4万零120元才能拥有这张钞票，相等于一辆还有大约5年使用期的二手车价钱。

马年邮票被批“像烧鸡”，设计师说，设计灵感来自汉代浑圆的马匹形象，设计抽象难免会有人看不懂。
《新明日报》昨日报道，新邮政推出的马年纪念邮票，被民众批评马儿太圆，有人说像烧鸡，更有人说像猪。
设计这组邮票的廖德聪（50岁，创意总监）受访时说，他的设计灵感其实来自汉代身材浑圆饱满的马匹形象。汉代画家画的马虽然线条简单，感觉很朴素，不过有强烈的运动张力，以及写意浪漫的风格。
他说，从2008年开始，他就为新邮政设计十二生肖系列邮票，这是新邮政推出的第二轮生肖系列邮票。
整个系列的概念，就是用几何图形来构图，这是比较西方的做法，与中国传统色彩浓厚的十二生肖结合，就有种中西合璧的感觉。

Special stamps to preserve memory of Singapore’s vanishing trades
Singapore Post will release a special stamp issue on vanishing trades in Singapore this week.
It will feature trades such as the “kachang putih” man, the parrot astrologer and the knife sharpener.
Other trades featured include ice-ball sellers, cobblers and lantern makers.
These tradesmen were once a common sight on the five-foot-ways of shophouses in Singapore.
But they are fast disappearing as the skyline of a modern financial and maritime hub replaces the old townscape.
SingPost said the colourful but now fading trades are part of Singapore's rich cultural heritage, and it hopes to preserve memories of them with the stamps.
The special issue of 10 stamps will go on sale on October 16 at all post offices in Singapore and SingPost's online shopping portal.
Pre-cancelled first day cover and presentation packs will also be available at the same outlets.

A set of five commemorative postal stamps will be released to mark Singapore's 48th year of independence.
Singapore Post said the stamps will showcase examples of what Singaporeans have shared, overcome and achieved together.
This series is the first of three special stamp sets that SingPost is launching in as many years in the lead up to Singapore's golden jubilee in 2015.
The subjects featured in this year's series include "Beating SARS Together", "Cleaning and Greening Our City", "Conquering Our Water Challenges" and "Living Together in Harmony".
The stamps, with the surface values of 1st local mail, 50 cents, 65 cents, 80 cents and S$1.10, will go on sale on 5 August 2013.
Miniature sheets, pre-cancelled first day covers and presentation sets of the special stamp issue will also be on sale.
